A series of photographs that explores Mexico's southern state of Oaxaca, and its people. Mexico has been plagued in recent years by drug cartels, violence, corruption, and illegal emigration. Oaxaca has had some of its own struggles, mostly political in nature. One of the most poverty stricken states, Oaxaca holds an unsurpassed beauty, hospitable people, cultures and traditions that have survived for generations. A high concentration of indigenous people, and a love for life leads to a unique way of being. Mexico was one of the first places I spent any significant amount of time outside of the U.S. and since has always held a certain place in my heart. Life unfolds in the dusty streets, smoky markets and colorful celebrations that dominate everyday life in Oaxaca. I aim to portray a glimpse of Mexico that is far too often over looked by the media in our society.
